SUA Urges Israel for a "RAPID" Inquiry into Humanitarian Workers' Deaths as Aid Convoys Retreat Following Gaza Attack

The United States administration has called for a swift and thorough investigation by Israel into the recent airstrike in Gaza that resulted in the tragic loss of seven humanitarian workers. The White House emphasized the urgency for accountability and public disclosure of the findings.

In a recent press briefing, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House spokesperson, reiterated President Joe Biden's strong and direct statement from the previous night, demanding a rapid and complete investigation into the incident. The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has expressed regret over the "tragic incident" and committed to a full investigation to prevent such occurrences in the future.

This call to action comes as a convoy of ships carrying essential supplies for Gaza returned to Cyprus following the deadly attack. The convoy, which included a vessel with 240 tons of food, was forced to retreat after the loss of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) employees, who had just finished unloading aid from a barge sent from Cyprus.

The WCK, which has been operating in Gaza since October, has suspended its activities in the territory due to the attack and has redirected its fleet back to Cyprus. In response to the crisis, Cyprus has offered to expedite the security verification process for aid overseen by Israel to ensure that assistance reaches Gaza by sea.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from international entities, including the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom. As the Israeli delegation is expected in the United States next week for discussions on alternative intervention methods in Rafah, the global community awaits the outcomes of the promised investigation and the pursuit of peace and security in the region.
